The article examines the importance of civil society at the present stage of the existence of the Russian state. The analysis of prerequisites for the formation of civil society is carried out. A qualitative characteristic of the distinctive features of the civil society of the Russian Federation is also given. In addition, the article focuses on the problems of the formation of civil society in Russia, which have both historical roots and are conditioned by modern realities. The article also specifies the conditions for the formation of civil society.
