Mechanism of pulsed generation mode when transporting a relativistic electron beam in a gas-filled medium

The process of a pulsed egime appearance in the propagation of an electron beam in a gas-filled space. It is shown that, due to a change in the electron velocity when a virtual cathode occurs, the ionization probability of the gas increases, which leads to the formation of an ion cloud displacing the virtual cathode from space. The time of displacement of the virtual cathode is an order of magnitude greater than the time of its formation.
